Seriously, everyone should be forced to browse at GPRS speeds to get a feel for just how bad the modern web is by comparison. Keep the debug window up to verify it actually stays set. Most of the smallweb still loads reasonably fast, but god help you if you try to use a banking website.
Edit (because morbid curiosity):
Tildes time to load: 30s .... that's about on par with period-appropriate computing.
My bank: 7.5 minutes
Kagi: 23s
Google: 3.2 min
Bing: 1.45 min
I jumped the gun. It's now at 10.5 min and counting.
So yea if you're still on dialup get yourself some Kagi. Also, what I've learned from this experiment is that geocitiesified versions of many websites load faster than the real ones.
