Who's fault is it?

Nobody in specific. Don't pin the blame on anybody, that's extremely rude and not behavior I would want to see from you guys. Don't point fingers, don't make a scapegoat, don't spread hate.

Why exactly did it shut down?

SoktDeer wasn't meant to be around for so long, it was moreso meant to "bridge the gap" between Meower and what I thought would come next, but people started to build a home on SoktDeer, and with that came plenty of troubles.

• Moderation: I admittedly was too light on moderation, oftentimes resorting to simply removing things instead of taking proper actions.
• External troubles: "can I have an invite code?" "can I please have an invite code?" "day 1 of asking for an invite code" Many people wanted in, and trying to determine whether or not I *should* let them in was bothersome. I didn't want to deal with it.
• Not what I wanted: SoktDeer was meant to be a positive place to let people talk to each other. While it started out like this, after time drama and just general rude behavior began to present itself. That was NEVER what I wanted for SoktDeer.

Might it come back?/Might there be a new SoktDeer?

It's certainly possible, but probably not for a while. You can always keep an eye on here for any important updates. Also, if it comes back or a new SoktDeer is created, data wont be carried over from the discontinued SoktDeer. You'll need a new account (and invite code, if applicable).

Can I self host?

Of course! just keep in mind that SoktDeer's server wont be receiving updates from me anymore, and you'll have to maintain it yourself. The GitLab is linked on the website.
