Kopitiam Lah follows a rich tradition of coffee shops in Malaysia called kopitiams, serving up an incredible range of cross-cultural cuisine from the classic nasi lemak and roti bakar, to silky kaya toast & soft eggs drizzled with soy; and don’t forget to pair it with a cup of Kopi, a dark caramelised Hainanese coffee roast sweetened with condensed milk. Pulling from a rich culinary heritage, Kopitiam Lah create a timeless space for inspiring gastronomy and just plain ol’ fun.
‘Kopi’ in Malay translates to coffee, ‘tiam’ is the Hokkien word for shop, while ‘lah’ is a piece of popular flexible Malaysian/Singaporean slang.
After World War II, Hokkien immigrants in Malaysia (who were until then employed by British military canteens as chefs) started to buy property and set up their own small coffee shops for local workers to meet, eat, and most importantly, gossip.
Picture this: unassuming wooden stools on geometric patterned mosaic tiles, small plates full of savoury treats, and porcelain cups sporting the national flower of Malaysia, filled with Kopi, a special Hainanese coffee roast, sweetened with condensed milk.
The enduring, legendary kopitiam was born. A social sanctuary where the Chinese, Malay, & Indians in Malaysia all came together to swap stories over kopi, kaya toast and curry puff, fostering a sense of companionship and encapsulating the spirit of "muhibah," Malay for camaraderie among communities.

Traditional Malaysian kopi is not a drink - it’s a ritual!
Perfected by Chinese immigrants in Malaysia, our Hainanese roast uses high-quality Robusta, caramelised in a large wok to give it a slick black colour and deep flavour with a distinct addictive sweetness. It’s then brewed in a long-spout pot with a sock filter, to give us a dark viscous decoction that’s used with condensed milk to create the iconic, classic cup of Kopi.
It can also be prepared black for a Kopi-O, or with evaporated milk for Kopi-C. Trust us, there is a type of Kopi for everyone.
Kopitiam Lah will also be your introduction to a range of gorgeous mocktails inspired by unique Asian flavours. Complex, exquisite yet fascinating - our beverage programme will take your taste buds on a trip.
