Del Norte High School MEDICAL SCIENCES CLUB

Science. Study. Service.

About us

We are located in a rural school district in Northern California with poor access to public health care. The goal of the Del Norte High School Medical Sciences Club is to introduce our students to job path opportunities within our underserved community in health care fields.

How we do it

Our club has partnered with Cal Poly Humboldt, College of the Redwoods and Sutter Coast Hospital. Students visit these campuses, speak with professors and health care providers about educational opportunities to gain insight on which educational path is right for them.

Club activities

Our motivated students meet monthly to discuss current topics in health care. They have participated in local panel discussions to hear from doctors, nurses and paramedics about real world scenarios of first responders in our area. Many of our students have trained and become certified in CPR and first aid. Other students have won summer internships at Sutter Coast Hospital and received practical orientations to the demands of patient care.

Club goals

Club Advisors understand that not all students are destined for medical school. The Medical Science Club stresses that every aspect of healthcare makes an important contribution from certified nurses aids to the hospital chief of staff. Through the immersive experience that the Medical Sciences Club offers, it is our hope that students will obtain training and return to our community to serve our residents.
