cerastes:I have to respect that, when ideating the Final Finishing Move of the Switch Axe, the dev team said “ok basically the sword is actually a syringe and you inject explosions into whatever you latch onto”. There’s straight forward weapons like the Great Sword which cuts (strength build edition) and the Long Sword which cuts (dexterity build edition) and the bow which shoots and the hammer which bonks, and then you have Switch Axe with an innovative battery that can only be charged by Beating Things Up (or a magazine, if you are boring), and the energy it stores is specifically Killing Energy that was meant, from inception, to be Injected Into Big Dogs to fill them with Killing Energy that kills them (via explosions).
